Rebuilding Your Battery: Service Process

For guaranteed quality and safety we only use certified grade-A energy cells from the industry's top name brand manufacturers.  If your battery was originally equipped with other (smaller, low quality) cells, it may be that the current residual charge no longer exactly matches the value that you see on the display. With many batteries, the residual charge is displayed with 'blocks' or LEDs. Usually this indication becomes more accurate as the battery goes through more charge cycles (when new), but as your battery wears down near end-life, this gauge will become inaccurate and can lead consumers to believe the battery is still fine, when in fact it is reaching end-life.

  • EMP Builds A High Quality Battery

We will notify you when your battery arrives at our repair center. Your battery will be put through testing after the intake process. If it turns out that the poor battery performance is due to wear of the energy cells, our technicians will proceed to rebuild. If we find an issue that we can resolve without rebuilding, our team will reach out with options. EMP then rebuilds your battery quickly with high-quality, name-brand cells and provides your rebuild with a 1-year warranty. Extended warranties are also available!

  • EMP Returns Battery To Customer

We will then ship your e-bike battery back to you. After the repair has been completed and shipped, you will receive tracking and instructions from us via e-mail on how to use and maintain your reconditioned battery. It is important you follow these instructions to bring your battery up to its maximum capacity as soon as possible.  It is also worth mentioning that the first couple times you cycle the reconditioned battery, the battery has not yet reached it's maximum capacity. There is a break-in period that usually takes 5-10 cycles for your battery to achieve top-performance. Also, if the battery doesn't work due to malfunction of your original circuitry, and there is no other repair options, your money is fully refundable.

Shipping Batteries via UPS

Lithium batteries (UN3090, UN3091, UN3480, UN3481) Regulatory changes related to lithium batteries are dynamic. While UPS works to keep abreast of these changes, note that regulations applicable to lithium batteries change often, both internationally and domestically in the United States.

About lithium batteries Because lithium batteries are designed to provide high levels of power, the electrical energy in these batteries is significant, meaning that such batteries can sometimes generate a great amount of heat if short circuited. In addition, the chemical contents of these batteries may catch fire if damaged or if improperly designed or assembled. For these reasons, there are safety regulations controlling the shipment of these types of batteries. Shippers must conform to the applicable regulations published by PHMSA and/or IATA. While all lithium batteries are classified as hazardous materials (also referred to as dangerous goods), there are exceptions for common small sizes of these batteries that simplify the rules for shipping these items by air. UPS accepts such common lithium batteries under those reduced regulations only when the batteries are packed with or contained in equipment. For UPS, all air shipments of lithium ion or metal batteries shipped without equipment (UN3090, UN3480) must be fully regulated as dangerous goods, which requires a UPS Dangerous Goods contract. This document describes the rules for shipping small lithium batteries packed with or contained in equipment for which UPS does not require a UPS Dangerous Goods contract.

Lithium battery types There are two major kinds of lithium batteries, both of which contain very high levels of energy: Lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries are rechargeable. • Sometimes called “secondary lithium batteries” • Includes lithium polymer (Li-Po) batteries • These batteries are often found in common electronic devices such as cell phones and laptops Lithium metal batteries are generally non-rechargeable. • Sometimes called “primary lithium batteries”
